Leadership Change in Canadian Immigration

Today’s draw also signals the final selection overseen by outgoing Immigration Minister Rachel Bendayan. Future draws will now be managed under the leadership of Lena Metlege Diab, appointed as Canada’s new Minister of Immigration in Prime Minister Mark Carney’s cabinet reshuffle.

Minister Diab’s appointment is expected to fast-track key immigration reforms, such as:

  • Maintaining new permanent resident levels at 1% of the Canadian population by 2027.
  • Increasing French-speaking immigrant intake.
  • Revamping the Global Talent Stream (GTS) to attract top global talent.
  • Managing and reducing temporary resident numbers across work and study permits.

Details on these changes will be provided through Minister Diab’s official mandate letter.
