IELTS’s Listening module is in many IELTS Coaching Experts opinion. Yes! Even if you are not a native speaker, you can still achieve a score of 9 bands on the IELTS listening test. Here are the top 10 listening test IELTS techniques that will help you score higher bands, possibly even 9 bands.
IELTS LISTENING TIP
1. Practice listening with multiple audios:
Your recording will only be played once. Studying for a listening test is insufficient. You can familiarise yourself with the test format by taking practise tests, but your listening abilities will not improve. For that, I suggest watching English television programmes, documentaries, Ted Talks, podcasts, or possibly Netflix. These exercises will also help you feel more confident.
2. Increase the vocabulary you use:
Word formation is a continuous process. It is usually advantageous to include new terms. our existing word bank. Become familiar with the words that are related to academic situation as many listening audios will be related to University.
3. Capital Answers
Capital Answers in listening is important, therefore use it while writing your responses or answers. If you are unsure of the capital regulations, I advise utilising only capital letters. Proper nouns always begin with capital letters, while verbs never do. Additionally, even though the blank is in the centre of the sentence, we somehow have the habit of capitalising the initial letter to fill it in. To prevent a score deduction, only use capital letters while writing your replies.
4. Carefully read the Instructions for Answer limits:
The directions listed on the question paper are included in each section. It’s crucial to respect the directions in addition to thoroughly reading them. If it specifies “no more than three words or digits,” then the word count has been exceeded that may hamper your overall score. Abbreviations are counted as words. For example: 3 a.m. are counted as three words.
5. Check for spellings:
With the penetration of SMS, people have lost their grip on writing correct spellings. I suggest writing full words while chatting or typing on computer. Many students lose their marks because of spelling mistakes. Proofread all your answers after transferring them into the answer sheet. Check all the spellings twice.
6. Pay attention:
Thirty minutes is a long time, and maintaining focus is challenging. You could easily overlook an answer in the fourth phase (the monologue). Stop allowing that to happen to you. Maintain your attention. Your diligence will be rewarded.
7. Don’t type your responses too rapidly.
Many pupils make the mistake of mistaking the necessary information for the answer as soon as they hear it. But occasionally, this material is clarified or repeated in a later section.
Example:
Sam: I’m grateful. Your email was received by me. It is therefore loren-hanson@gmail.com.
Loren: No. You are wrong; the correct spelling is loren-hamson@gmail.com.
Sam: I’m really sorry.
8. Search for clumsy errors
You have 30 seconds to review your responses after each section. It’s crucial to double-check word forms, plurals, and spelling. Keep in mind that only replies that are properly typed will receive points.
9. Transferring Answers correctly
You will have 10 minutes to enter your answers on the answer sheet after the listening test. Andquite often students get confused in the numeration! As you write down your answers, check that they fit into the correct numbered space. In other words, make sure that answer for question 7 goes into space number 7.
10. Don’t leave any blank answers!
You won’t lose marks for incorrect answers, so even if you don’t know the answer it is better to write something in the answers box. Read the question again and make a guess!
Bonus Tips
Don’t understand it okay
We do not want to learn any academic subject from section 4 (monologue), at least not in listening test. So do not try to understand everything. It will leave you confused, and miscomprehension may hurt your score.
Transition words:
Answers revolve around transition words. For example, words like ‘because’, ‘therefore’, ‘however’ give the evidence of what it was stated. Some more detailing is given here. Whenever you hear these words, fetch the answer. Bingo!
